1992

The period of posters by painters was bookended by Robert Combas in 1992. Combas could be described as Keith Haring’s French alter ego: a rock ‘n’ roll painter, inspired by the freedom of graffiti, cartoons, record sleeves and popular culture in all its forms. His paintings sold like hot cakes in the 1980s and 1990s before the artist was somewhat forgotten by history. His painting of a trumpet player seems to be in flux, like an animation, as it moves and dances in contortion.
