1981

Nicole “Nikki” Martin Rue produced the poster for the 1981 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, which featured a pianist in a floral shirt standing in front of a keyboard and rainbow harps. The work must have made an impression on Claude Nobs, because he entrusted the poster for the 15th Montreux Jazz Festival to the young artist from Louisiana. Martin Rue’s design imagines musical instruments like artists’ palettes soaring over the shore, and the limited edition screen print emphasises the polychromatic design of this delightfully 80s poster. Since the 1990s, Nikki Martin Rue has devoted herself to still life watercolour painting.
