Ten years after her first collaboration with the Festival, Malika Favre returns, this time working alongside Sri Lankan artist Kumkum Fernando. Blending retro-futurist aesthetics with a flower power spirit, the poster for the 61st edition celebrates music as an experience that is at once spiritual, sensual and universal. Floral, folk and sensual motifs adorn an enigmatic figure that sits somewhere between a jukebox and a retro-futurist robot. Following the iconic 1986 work by Keith Haring and Andy Warhol, it is only the second poster in the Festival’s history to be created by two artists.
“I fell in love with the Festival on my very first visit in 2017. The poster I created for that edition is still one of my favorite pieces today. I knew it would be hard to match, so I wanted to do the exact opposite: a work full of color, as maximalist as the first one was minimalist. Kumkum was the ideal artist for that.”
